“Thirty Three Trees”

The sandstorm engulfs me.
On the third day without food or water, I sit with my loneliness. Instead, I hear a gentle consolation. But the moment I turn inward to listen to my own breath, that warmth disappears. In its place, I hear the desert breathing.
The sandstorm engulfs me. I, too, slowly come to love the feeling of the windblown sand wrapping around me, grazing my skin.
In the desert, a clock from a thousand years ago is no different from a clock a thousand years from now.
The sandstorm engulfs me.
